History of the wall
The original Hernando County Veterans
Roll of Honor, dedicated March 10, 1946, recognized 990 county veterans
for their service during WWI or WWII. Replaced on Veteran’s Day 1990,
the new 9’ x 18’ granite wall honors, by name, the 1,607 Hernando
County residents who served in the armed forces during wartime. There
are duplicates, and we've found 1,596 unique names.
Every name is now on the web
Starting February 23, 2008, the names of
all service members etched in the wall are now available right here. You
can search by name, view the north and south sides of the wall exactly as
they are etched, and soon be able to view the list alphabetically.
